Most of what you run
has no way in.

Anything with an interface, we connect to, and usually an account is all it takes. The trouble is that the system your business actually runs on generally does not have one. We went and checked, vendor by vendor, rather than assuming.

Freight forwarding and customs clearing

Customs itself is not an interface at all. It is a decades-old messaging format reached only through a licensed vendor, and those vendors are the gatekeepers. The port terminal system every forwarder checks many times a day publishes nothing.

Recruitment and staffing

The agency standard here lists exactly one integration on its own site. Meanwhile background vetting, which is compulsory on nearly every placement, publishes nothing at all.

Accounting and bookkeeping

The ledger is open, and that is the half everyone quotes. The other half is that the tax authority has no way in for practitioners at all, and the South African practice tools a firm touches every day publish nothing between them. This is why accounting was our first vertical and still our hardest.

Accounting and bookkeeping 10 open · 2 by agreement · 6 no way in
Xero Draft invoices, bills, contacts, bank lines, journals. Drafts only, never issued. An account is enough
Sage Accounting South Africa Post and reconcile. A separate system from the international one, with its own address. Build against the wrong one and nothing works. An account is enough

Managing agents and body corporates

The regulator every scheme must file with by law has no way in, and from April it takes on disputes too. The system of record holds the levy roll and publishes nothing. The money rails, oddly, are the most open in the country.

Immigration and company registration

The companies registry publishes an interface that reads and cannot write. Registering a company, filing an annual return and every visa step are all marked coming soon or not published at all. Reading is solved here. Filing is not.
